A donation worth £9,000 from local charity, Wakefield Oncology and Leukaemia Fund (WOLF), has seen the delivery and installation of a further scalp cooling machine at Pinderfields Hospital’s new cancer ward.
Wakefield Oncology and Leukaemia Fund has been raising money for the new cancer services equipment and facilities at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust since 2001.

Claire Paxman, Sales and Training Executive at Paxman Coolers Limited, commented:
“It’s fantastic for scalp cooling treatment to be available to more patients here at Pinderfields. We would like to thank WOLF for their generosity in raising and donating the money for the scalp cooler, enabling us to help improve patient’s lives during this difficult time.”
Joyce Bruce, Hon. Treasurer at WOLF, added:
“It is very important that all patients are given the opportunity to choose what treatment they would like to receive so we felt that an extra scalp cooler at Pinderfields would be a very worthwhile donation. This way, more patients can opt to receive the treatment and have the chance of keeping their hair.”
Liz McGuire, Senior Sister at Pinderfields Hospital, said:
“We have a fantastic nursing team who give their all for cancer patients and it’s great that we can provide more scalp cooling treatments and really make a difference to our patients. We are really grateful to WOLF for all their efforts in raising the money and we know the patients will truly appreciate it.”
