History
The company’s history dates back to the 1950s when the beer cooler was invented by Eric Paxman, the father of Paxman’s current Chairman. The Paxman family has been very successful in developing cooling solutions for more than 30 years.
The Paxman Scalp Cooling System was designed using similar principles and technologies following Glenn Paxman’s wife losing her hair whilst receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer. Although she was treated with an early version of a cooling cap, the cooling therapy did not work for her. Glenn, realising how traumatic the subsequent hair loss was, developed a system that worked. After months of research and development, Glenn and his brother Neil built the first prototype of the cooling cap which was installed at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary in 1997.
Paxman Coolers was formed in 1998 and after extensive trials and further development, in the 10 years that followed, several hundreds of systems were produced, treating many thousands of patients. It is a system that works, is user friendly and is cost effective. It has been accepted by doctors, nursing staff and patients alike. Previous problems associated with cold therapy treatments have been eliminated.
The company’s office and manufacturing facility is based at International House in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The company has expanded its facilities to meet the current and future global demand for its scalp cooling systems.
The premises are the nerve centre of the operation, both for manufacturing and service to our international distributor network. Our dedicated staff are able to meet the demands from customers, patients and distributors throughout the international scalp cooling network.
Today the Paxman System is used extensively throughout the UK both in NHS hospitals and Private Clinics. The company has also established the product in many other countries throughout Europe and is currently on trial and evaluation in other continents throughout the World.
