Walk the Walk is UK’s leading grant making breast cancer charity. It organises a host of unique Power Walking events both nationally and internationally to raise funds which it then grants to breast cancer causes.
The charity has committed to funding a long-term initiative to ensure Paxman scalp cooling machines are available to all NHS hospitals in the UK offering chemotherapy treatment. In all, the grant funding scheme will see £5million invested into this to make it happen.
Nina Barough, Founder and CEO of Walk the Walk, commented: “I know personally how much integrated care helped me on my journey through breast cancer so I am delighted that Walk the Walk is able to grant hospitals in the UK with the provision of scalp coolers. It is our belief that all patients should be offered this treatment and have the right to make their own choice.”

A survey revealed that whilst 95% of people in the UK are aware that chemotherapy treatment can cause hair loss, a staggering 82% of people do not know what cold caps are. This prompted the launch of the ‘Cool head, warm heart’ national campaign.
The aim is to raise the profile of scalp cooling (or cold cap treatment as it is more commonly known) and to make everyone in the UK aware that it is available in NHS and private hospitals throughout the country if requested by patients, nurses or doctors.
All cancer patients should be given the opportunity to choose the treatment that is right for them. The ‘Cool head, warm heart’ campaign aims to make patients aware that scalp cooling is available so they can speak with their consultant about it and then make an informed decision about the treatment they want to receive.

Maintaining peace of mind can make all the difference when you’re fighting cancer. Scalp coolers help you keep your head by keeping your hair – giving you one less thing to worry about and more time to concentrate on the things in life that matter most.
FACT: A recent survey revealed that 82% of people do not know what cold caps are.
This campaign aims to raise awareness of scalp cooling or cold cap hair retention for men during chemotherapy.
We want to:
* Encourage men to seek advice on hair loss during chemotherapy
* Raise awareness of scalp cooling amongst hospitals and GPs
* Establish ‘scalp cooling’ as a well known phrase to be immediately associated with chemotherapy
Every man should be aware that scalp cooling is available in NHS and private hospitals throughout the country if requested.
