Breakthrough in cooling times revealed |
A study has recently found that for patients undergoing a certain type of chemotherapy course, when the scalp cooling time after chemo treatment was reduced from the usual 90 minutes to 45 minutes, the results for hair retention were more successful.
This is a huge breakthrough and will make a big difference, not only to patients, as they will not have to stay at hospital for as long, but also for the hospital staff in the day care units, as they will be able to offer scalp cooling to more patients in any one day.
At the moment, the study is focused on those patients undergoing 3-weekly docetaxel chemotherapy regimes but we hope that this will be widened to include other courses in the future. The trial is also now being extended to try a 20 minute post-infusion time.
For now, we are celebrating that more patients than ever will have the opportunity to retain more of their hair when using the Paxman scalp cooler system. |
