Recommendations for post infusion cooling times are based on peak plasma concentrations, drug half life, potential interactions, recent trials and the experience of users of the Paxman Hair Loss Prevention System. They are to be calculated after the infusion of all the agents which cause alopecia.
Abnormal LFTs may necessitate an increase in the cooling time if possible. Results with Afro-Caribbean hair are less successful, and it is advisable to increase cooling times by 1/2 to 1 hour.
Important - if some hair loss is experienced after the first cycle it is recommended to increase the post infusion time by 1/2 hour to reduce the chance of further hair loss and thereby increase the overall success of the treatment.
Hair loss evaluation is subjective and although there is no scientific assessment to measure the degree of hair loss, recognised guidelines can be used. Paxman Coolers use the World Health Organisation (WHO) criteria for alopecia, where success is defined as the patient choosing not to wear a wig irrespective of whether the amount of hair loss is negligible, minor or moderate.
All above are general recommendations, they are to be used as a guide and assume liver functions are normal. All recommendations are given based on current information, but we cannot guarantee outcomes or success rates. Hair colour, condition and age of patient do affect outcomes. |
